Welcome to the Studio Journal

We’re glad you’re here. This is a new space for us, and we’re excited to settle in, get cozy, and share our thoughts, ideas, interests, and musings with you.

This online journal is a place to further explore, refine, and present topics we are interested in as a collective. It is interviews, think-pieces, and photo essays, academic studies, drawings, and stories. It is open-ended and malleable. But most importantly, it is personal.

Personal because we are going to try our best to be honest, accessible, relatable, intimate, and inclusive.

So much of what we do at Human Studio is in pursuit of creating, nurturing, and strengthening our connections with each other. We believe that social connection - the sense of belonging - is the foundation of our collective voice for transformation, our health and well-being, and our societal resilience.

A resilience beyond sustainment - one that pushes us to grow and evolve as designers and people. By building the capacity to grow, we create an environment where everyone has a slightly better shot at being happier. Well, that is our working hypothesis at least, and we are putting it to the test in our own firm because we believe the profession could use a little shake-up, don't you?

Our office is a work in progress where we are constantly experimenting with new project workflows, approaches and delivery. We try out new seating layouts and beer o’clock games (pro tip: Bruce is always the werewolf). All this to make sure we are nurturing the strong office culture we have worked hard to build, where that capacity for growth is inherent, and each Human feels they are fulfilling their potential, whether that is becoming an expert in Passive House design, mountain biking, building beautiful models or achieving greatness through boolean logic. Whatever it may be, we want to ensure each person's profoundly beautiful, messy individuality is supported and celebrated.

And we want to share all of that with you. So we hope you will stop by the Studio Journal from time to time, have a cup of coffee, and see what we are up to.
